Helping in the community

B2 First · Speaking Collaborative · Cambridge Ready original exercise

Talk with your partner about the ideas in the mind map for about two minutes. Then spend about a minute deciding something together.

Now I'm going to ask you to work as a pair for a couple of minutes. Here you'll see some ways young people could help in their local area, and a question for you to talk about. Take a moment to look at them before you start.

Helping in the community

cleaning up parks

helping older neighbours

volunteering at an animal shelter

helping at local events

teaching younger children

Now, take about a minute and try to agree which activity would be the most useful for the community.

Now, talk together about how each of these activities could help people in a local area.

How can young people help in their local area?
