What do you do with a skyscraper that has (0) ___ the end of its useful life? The standard approach is to raze it to the ground and construct a new one. Unfortunately, this comes (1) ___ a huge cost to the environment, not to (2) ___ astronomical financial costs. The owners of the AMP Centre, formerly Sydney's tallest building (3) ___ completion in the 1970s, attempted to reduce these costs by building a swanky new skyscraper without (4) ___ demolished the old one first. A sister tower was built alongside the original, then merged with it within a single external frame. The project was not (5) ___ its challenges, however, not least the tendency of skyscrapers to sink and spread under their own massive weight over the decades, so the existing structure no (6) ___ matched the dimensions from the original designs.
